World of Warcraft Item Upgrades

The upgrade of an item can be used to improve the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade it could boost an item's Mark Level or Rarity, and also boost other stats.

Upgrading equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests Each item comes with an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the price of the next item by a certain amount.

Item Level

When an item gets upgraded, its stats improve in value. This value is the total of all its upgraded benefits (attack, magic attack and defense). Upgrades can be expensive depending on who you hire and what you decide to do. This is due to how many perks must be replaced in order for the item to be upgraded.

It can also be used as a gating requirement when waiting for dungeons, raids and scenarios. It can also be used to limit how much PvP gear players can use, since PvP is limited at a lower level. Players can view their average level of item on their character sheet.

Utilizing the level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when they decide to buy or sell. It's a sign of the damage and quality. The level of the item can be used to evaluate items when looking at a vendor's inventory.

The level of the item can be seen by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. The item will be displayed with its full description, including the ilvl. It can also be found by hovering an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are a few theories on how the calculation of the item's level is made. One theory is that the item upgrader mod level is a number that comes from a formula which calculates the amount an item's stats are worth. It takes into account the fact that different perks have different worth and that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. This could result in an item's ilvl which is calculated and is typically very close to Blizzards actual item level.

This is not the only thing that affects the level of an item. The level of the area where the item was dropped can alter its stats. For example it can increase the item's haste, or crit rating. Items dropped in higher-level instances will have higher ilvl.

Item Stats

The stats of an item can determine the fate of an item level upgrade for players. The game uses a lot of them in different ways to encourage players to play with a variety of weapons, and to prevent one weapon from being "the most effective." The stat mods of a weapon boost the base stats. These stat mods are then enhanced by a player's level.

Item upgrades add to that by increasing certain stats on the item. The costs for upgrades are determined by the rarity of the item. A white or grey item for instance, can only be upgraded one time and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Affixes are another way to change an item's stats. They are stat boosters that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes can be used to give items additional damage or other special capabilities (such as the ability to revive dead or reduce cooling downs), or to distinguish them by adding a name.

All affixes are currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window and pressing the green button. It will cost a set amount in gold and other items. These can be used as upgrade gauges, similar to other methods of rerolling.

Players can upgrade an item by specific stats or reroll the affixes. The possible stat ranges for an item upgrader kit are based on the item level, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the range, unless it is a unique item or an item that is a God roll from a raid boss.

Another thing that could be altered by adding the option to upgrade the equipment without rolling the affixes or deciding which stats to enhance. But as with base equipment, this would need to be performed on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

The Luck stat of a player boosts the chance of finding items, the properties that are generated by loot, and the strength of these properties. It doesn't, however, directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It provides players with the chance to upgrade gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial for early game runs, since players tend to prioritize the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chances of success when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This is not to be confused with the Blacksmith’s overall upgrade chances that increase with each item level. These can also be enhanced by using anti-materials such as a Scroll of Strength and a Jewel of Blessing.

Armor, shields and weapons can be made or spawn with the Luck property, which has the default value of 40. These items can then be upgraded with golden ingots, spined leather or oak boards (depending on the material of the item) to grant a further +40 Luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Certain items, such as the Hollow-infused weapon can also be outfitted to increase the damage dealt by any ability that deals damage by 5%. These items can be purchased in the shop or crafted with the right ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades are successful. Cash shop items can be used to boost the chances of success for an upgrade item or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.

When you upgrade an item the success rate is displayed in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased with Additional Materials or Special materials. The percentage of success can only be increased as much, and the likelihood that the upgrade will fail cannot exceed 100%.

The success of an upgrade is also affected by the luck of the item. Each item has an overall success rate of 25%, and every item with Luck increases this chance by 5%.

It is important to note that upgrade items are rendered above the items in the inventory which means that enchantment glints and other effects can be obstructed by them. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
