Item upgrades are a way to increase the stats of an item. Based on the type of upgrade, it can increase an item's Rarity or Mark Level and increase other stats.

Upgrades to equipment in The War Within requires a specified number of Flightstones and Crests, and each item upgrader has an upgrade track. Each upgrade increases the cost of the next one by a set amount.

The level of an item will allow players to compare the power of equipment when choosing to buy or sell. It's an excellent gauge of an item's worth and the amount of damage it is capable of causing. Comparing items in the inventory of a seller can be done by using the item's level.

The item level can be checked by pressing the ALT key on PC or using the left stick (L3) on XB1 and PS4. This will display the complete description of the item, including its level. It can also be located by hovering over an item with the mouse cursor and entering /itemlevel into chat.

There are many theories about how the level of an item is calculated. One theory states that the level of an item is calculated using a formula that calculates the worth of the stats of an item upgrader mod really are. It takes into consideration the fact that different perks have different values and that gems in sockets increase the item's overall value. Upgrades to an item can boost its stats. The rarity of an item determines its upgrade cost. A white or grey item for instance, will only be upgraded once and items with rare tiers can be upgraded multiple times with more expensive costs.

Another method of altering the stats on an item is by affixing it. They are stat boosts that can be added by the player to an item. The affixes could provide the item additional damage, or add a unique ability to the item (such as reviving dead or cutting down cooldowns), or make the item unique by adding an additional name to the item.

All affixes can be currently re-rolled by selecting them in the upgrade window, pressing the green button. This process will cost the player a specific amount of gold and items that can be added to the upgrade gauge in the same manner as the other options for rerolling.

In addition to rerolling affixes, players can also choose which of the available stats to keep on an item after it is upgraded. The possible ranges of stats for an item are determined by the level of the item, but all items are guaranteed to have at least one stat within the specified range, unless it is an item that is unique or the result of a God roll from a boss of a raid.

This is another thing that could be altered by adding an option to upgrade the equipment without rerolling the affixes or deciding which stats to increase. But as with base equipment, this would have to be carried out on a per-item basis, and the item compare interface would not display all the possible stats either lost or gained at the same time.

Item Luck

A player's Luck stat stacks up to increase the likelihood of finding items as well as the properties that appear on loot drops and the intensity of these properties. However, it doesn't directly affect damage or the ability to upgrade items. It gives players the chance to upgrade their gear earlier in the game. This is more beneficial for early game runs, because players tend to put the scaling of weapons and defenses over raw damage gains.

In addition to influencing item discovery, Luck also increases the chance of being successful when upgrading items using the Blacksmith. This should not be confused with the Blacksmith's overall upgrade probability which increases with each level of the item and can be further enhanced through the use of an anti-material such as a Scroll of Strength or a Jewel of Blessing.

Weapons, armor, and shields can be created or spawned using the Luck property, with an initial value of 40. These items can be enhanced by using golden ingots or spined leather (depending on their material type) to add another 40 luck or to boost the Luck of an item up to 140.

Furthermore, certain items, like the Hollow weapon, which is infused with Hollow, can be equipped to increase the damage of any damage-dealing skill by five percent. These items are available in the shops or made by using the appropriate ingredients.

Item Failure

Not all upgrades work. Cash shop items can be used to increase the chances of success for an upgrade or to prevent players from losing their item in the event that it is not successful.

The success rate of an upgrade is shown in the Honing UI. The percentage represents the likelihood of successfully upgrading an item. This can be increased by using Additional Materials or Special Materials. There are limitations to how much success rates can be increased, and the overall chance of an upgrade failing cannot be greater than 100%..

The success of an upgrades is also influenced by the luck of that item upgrading. Every item has an average success rate of 25%, and each item with Luck increases that chance by an additional 5percent.

The item upgrade overlays are displayed above items in the inventory. This could block enchantment effects as well as other effects. If you wish to disable the upgrade overlays, the config option decoration.renderUpgradeOverlays can be set to False in the Item Upgrader CORE client config.
